Hello, my name is David Lerew. Welcome to the Purple Slate Studio.
For as long as I can remember I have been a keen photographer of scenes and subjects that catch my interest. I have tried to capture the look, feel, character and memory of a particular place and moment in time. The resulting photographs then sat, neglected, in unopened albums and the darkest recesses of my computer’s hard drive.
The Purple Slate Studio is all about sending the best of my work out into the world. This is a scary thing to do, putting my work, and therefore part of me, out there to be looked at, judged, criticised but also, I hope, appreciated and enjoyed. It took two years to pluck up the courage to do this so please be gentle with me! Do please let me know what you think of my work.
Many of my photographs are British landscapes and seascapes, reflecting my love of being out and about in this sensationally beautiful and varied country. It seems to me that time spent outside our heated and air conditioned workplaces, homes and cars, appreciating what’s around us now, this instant, is good for the soul. Hopefully my photographs capture this.
Painting in watercolour and acrylics is a new venture for me, satisfying a creative itch where the feel and mood of a particular subject is better captured by paint and brush.
All the images on display here are available as mounted prints, sized to fit readily available frames. Please get in touch if you would like a size or format that I have not listed.
